David Ledbetter is an independent researcher in seventeenth- and eighteenth-century keyboard music and performance practice, with a particular interest in how an understanding of context and structure may deepen and enrich performance. He is the author of Continuo Playing According to Handel (Oxford University Press), and editor (with Simon Rowland-Jones) of a new performing edition of Haydn’s string quartets (Peters Edition). His fascination for Bach’s supreme connoisseurship of styles and musical materials is reflected in two books: Bach’s Well-tempered Clavier: The 48 Preludes and Fugues, and Unaccompanied Bach: Performing the Solo Works (both Yale University Press).
